Ben McLachlan
Knife maker from Adelaide, South Australia.
I've always had a strong interest in hunting, fishing, cooking wild game and the outdoors. I started making knives as a hobby to complement those pursuits. Over the years it evolved into a small business that I work on part time. I also work as a luthier building and repairing musical instruments. Check out my page for that here.
I had an accident with a circular saw around the same time I was getting more serious about knife making, and cut off three fingers on my right hand. The doctors re-attached two but I lost the third, leaving me with a stump. That's where the name came from.
I work out of my shed from home, and build my knives from from a range of high quality steels.
I source the vast majority of my timber for handles from dead fall from my local area, and cut and stabilize it in house.
I also tan my own leather for sheaths and accessories from the skins from game I hunt.
Below are a few highlights from my hunting and fishing over the years.
